No Walking Groups currently planned

This is a walking group for sensitive souls, based in Berkeley, California. Anyone who is sensitive is welcome to participate. Reminder announcements are sent out the Friday before the walk to those who sign up on the announcement list. An RSVP is required for participation.

Here are the details:

  • We'll meet at 5:00 p.m. at the Nimitz Way trail gate* at Inspiration Point in Berkeley's Tilden Park and walk for about 3 miles roundtrip.
  • * Please meet us at the GATE near the south-west edge of the parking lot.

  • We will walk as a group (though some may want to walk more quickly than others, we'll try to stay essentially together).
  • We will walk in silence for the first half-mile.
  • We will set some guidelines for interaction - primarily that it is okay to say "I think I'd like to walk in silence for a while" and that we'll keep our conversations and interactions positive and supportive, and preferably without any "shoulds" or unsolicited advice-giving.

Other logistical information:

  • I can help with rides if people want to meet me at the southwest corner of Shattuck & Vine in Berkeley at 4:45 p.m. (from Downtown Berkeley BART it's about a 20 minute walk or a 5 minute bus ride on the 7, 9, or 43 ). Please phone me first at 510.981.0697.
  • I'm looking for people who would be willing to be "leaders" (meaning, make a commitment to "lead") when/if I'm not available.
  • The trail can be windy, even on warm days, so it's a good idea to wear layers and bring warm gear. I like to have a scarf, mittens, and a hat to block the sunlight from my eyes, along with a jacket or sweatshirt.
  • There is an outhouse at the beginning of the trail only.
  • Please bring water and wear comfortable shoes.
  • The trail is paved, and is relatively flat, though there are definite inclines and one steeper portion.
  • Others using the trail include cyclists, horses, runners, and other walkers (and sometimes cows, rabbits, coyotes, and mountain lions).
  • It's beautiful!
